Today in 1829, Germany saw the premiere of Faust. A tragedy in two parts, Goethe's Faust is considered to be the greatest work in German Literature. Essentially as a morality play it narrates probably the most famous deal with the devil in popular culture. The term ‘Faustian pact’ has passed into common usage, we explore today the story and its authors ambiguous relationship with Christianity.
